About

Heidi Miller

Heidi Miller has dedicated her life to helping people move with strength, freedom, and confidence. With nearly 30 years of experience   teaching movement and more than 20 years focused on Classical Pilates, she brings a rare depth of knowledge and compassion to her work.

Heidi holds a B.S. in Exercise Sports Science from Illinois State University. Early in her career, she worked as a personal trainer for over eight years, including four years in a physical therapy clinic that specialized in spinal rehabilitation. These experiences gave her a strong foundation in functional movement and a lasting interest in working with clients recovering from injury.

Her personal story is also central to her teaching. At 14, Heidi sustained seven spinal compression fractures in an accident, which left her with chronic pain for years. When she discovered Pilates, she immediately recognized its power to restore her body.

Through dedicated practice, she regained her strength and eventually became pain-free. This transformation inspired her to pursue teacher training at The Pilates Center of Boulder, where she completed its rigorous three-year program in 2005.

Heidi’s studies include direct mentorship with Mary Bowen — one of the original Pilates Elders who trained personally with Joseph Pilates. This connection places Heidi in the rare and prestigious lineage of second-generation teachers, directly linked to the founder of the method. She has also studied with Pat Guyton, Mejo Wiggins, Darien Gold, and Kathi Ross-Nash, and continues to deepen her knowledge through Archival Pilates, drawing on original materials from Joseph Pilates’ own work.

In 2005, Heidi expanded her teaching beyond the studio by creating Beyond the Movement: The Pilates Podcast, the first podcast dedicated to the Pilates method. The show reached audiences worldwide, featuring interviews, success stories, and conversations about how Pilates extends beyond exercise into a way of life.

Heidi is known for her warmth, clarity, and precise teaching style. She specializes in working with postpartum clients, those  experiencing chronic back pain, and individuals with connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Her work emphasizes not only the physical benefits of Pilates but also the mental and emotional resilience it helps cultivate.

Today, Heidi teaches from her home studio in the Colorado foothills, where deer often greet her students as they arrive. Whether guiding beginners, supporting those in recovery, or mentoring teachers, she brings the same dedication that has defined her career: a belief that Pilates is a lifelong journey of healing, strength, and discovery.
